Q: What types of opportunities do you offer?

A: We offer both permanent positions and locum tenens positions in a variety of specialties throughout the country.

Q: What is locum tenens?

A: The term “locum tenens†is derived from the Latin phrase “to hold the place of, to substitute for.†Most commonly referring to temporary physicians, locum tenens professionals contract with staffing agencies to perform medical services for a healthcare organization over a certain period of time. The physician works as an independent contractor paid through a staffing agency (MCS).

Q: What are the advantages of working as a locum tenens physician?

A: There are multiple advantages:

  • There is an enormous amount of flexibility in terms of time – with opportunities to work for as little as a couple of days to long term assignments of 6 months to 1 year
  • The opportunity to travel and explore the United States
  • There is a chance to evaluate whether or not you want to live in a particular city/state without the commitment of a traditional contract
  • It provides an opportunity to “date†before you “marry†in terms of your professional relationships
  • Locum tenens physicians are enabled to boost their earning potential and overall income

Q: Why do healthcare facilities use locum tenens physicians?

A: Locum tenens physicians are valuable to hospitals, hospital groups, and clinics from rural solo practices to large metro healthcare systems for a variety of reasons:

  • An existing physician may be on vacation or sabbatical
  • There is a permanent vacancy that may need to be filled
  • To supplement seasonal staffing needs during peak months
  • Supplementing the permanent staff with locum tenens physicians is much more cost effective for the facility than maintaining maximum staffing levels throughout the year

Q: Am I limited to opportunities within the states I am currently licensed?

A: If a physician is interested in an out-of-state opportunity, MCS will facilitate and in many cases pay for state licensing. MCS has both full-time and part-time opportunities throughout the United States. Therefore, the opportunities are only limited by each physician’s personal interests.

Q: Can I travel with my spouse and/or family?

A: Absolutely! MCS would be happy to assist in making the travel arrangements. Just be advised that the physician would be responsible for the travel costs of his/her traveling companions.

Q: What commitment is expected if I sign a contract with MCS?

A: There is NO cost or commitment to MCS if we do not find an employment opportunity for you. We ask all of our candidates to sign a “Professional Services Placement Agreement†to allow us the permission to seek out job opportunities that are tailored to fit their needs. Hospitals and Medical groups are free to work with other agencies. Physicians are free to work with other agencies. Let MCS work to earn your business and we will deliver.

Q: How do I get started?

A: Simply fill out the form on the Contact Us page and a representative from MCS will contact you to discuss your needs.
